ABOUT

About us

Routes Learning is an Alternative Provision service that aims to support and provide opportunities for young people to reach specific outcomes; whether these be educational, training or employment focussed. At Routes Learning we want to build confidence, develop a sense of identity and build the skills and attributes needed within the young people we work with to help them face the challenges of the world we live in today.

Our team of qualified teachers have a wealth of experience in supporting young people in a variety of educational settings, including community and home environments. Our aim is to not replicate what an individual might receive in a main stream setting or at a specialist provision, but instead develop a support programme that is holistically built around specific outcomes and needs. We recognise the importance of educational milestones but equally understand that the route taken to reach these will vary for each individual. We recognise the importance of working cooperatively with key stakeholders such as Local Authorities, Schools, Colleges and other Alternative Provisions to ensure the best outcomes for our young people.

Nick Lyons
Director

I have worked in education for over 14 years in Colleges and Local Authorities, as a teacher, education advisor and senior leader. During this time, I have been fortunate to work with some amazing young people to support their development and help them reach their goals. It is my belief that everybody has something to positive to offer the world but it can be difficult to figure out what that is at times. Through a tailored approach to engagement and learning, I believe that it is possible to enable all young people to build confidence and raise self-esteem, so that they can develop a strong sense of self-belief in themselves in whatever they want to do.

Daniel Luford
Director

I have worked in education for over 15 years, holding a variety of different teaching and leadership positions. The majority of this time was spent in mainstream education where I have supported a variety of individuals with very differing needs and backgrounds. Education for me has always been about investing in young people, building relationships and developing their self-worth and confidence.

This is one of the fundamental reasons for creating Routes Learning as we recognise that not every individual will have had positive experiences of education or training. We want to engage learners and support them in reaching goals, whether these are personal, academic or employment focussed.

Brooke Maddison
Teacher

Hi, my name is Brooke. I have worked in local schools as a teacher, mentor and professional coach since 2010. I am passionate about the work that I do and I am privileged to have worked with so many young people. I believe that a holistic view to education is vital for successful outcomes. Not just academically but also in terms of promoting and achieving self-belief and confidence, while creating skills and strategies to be able to apply that in all walks of life. I love living so close to the beach as I enjoy sea swimming, especially in the winter! I also enjoy going to watch musical performances on stage and going to the cinema.

Steph Matthews
Teacher

I have worked in education since 2014, having the privilege of working with a variety of ages from Early Years to Key Stage 3. Within this time, I have taught both in the classroom, and outside the classroom as a PE teacher, and truly believe that young people can achieve great things when offered the right support to find their passions and skills. I believe that academic learning must come hand-in-hand with strong relationships, confidence and resilience for young people to succeed, and believe physical and mental health both play an important role in a successful future. I love to exercise, as well as being outside; I am a regular at CrossFit and you can often find me on beach or forest walks with my lovely dog Dolly! I am also an avid reader, and a huge film fan, particularly at the cinema!
